Hey Gang,

Got lots of movie news with a big surprise finish at the end (please if you don't want to read all the news, scroll down to the bottom to get the big news)!!!! I'll start off with the bad news and keep getting better--- Here we good....

- First, the bad news is from the Lucas(Star Wars) front again. This is getting to be a monthly piss me off topic. As most of you know, us DVD owners have been waiting patiently for any version of the Star Wars universe to be put on DVD. Lucas's first excuse was that he was waiting to see if DVD would pan out as a format. Well, as video stores begin to worry if videos will last much longer because of the success of DVD's, I'm thinking he doesn't have to think much more. His next excuse was he wanted to wait till he was done with the new trilogy so he can spend the time and make a great version for DVD (yeah...whatever) Well, I got the kicker this week. A pre-order is out, in Japan no less, to purchase the Phantom Menace on Laser Disc. Yes Lucasarts has gone out of it's way to release a digital version of the film, on a format that is dead, for one country! The cost is $110, if your interested! And instead of using the same digital version for a DVD....yada yada, well, I'm sure there is a good reason. Like he's gonna wait till his nose stops running or something!

-As the slow winter movie season crawls on, there are a few movies that are looking quite interesting coming up. This week "Pitch Black", a horror Sci-Fi (like an Aliens) hits the screen. It's gotten some interesting reviews if you enjoy those kind of films. "Mission To Mars" (the first of the Mars movies) starts in Late March(?) The previews to this looks great. Director Brian DePalma used "2001" for inspiration and it looks like it. And finally, the first must see for the summer could be "Gladiator". It's been called a cross between "Ben Hur" and "Braveheart". Set during the Roman Empire, a Roman general gets captured as a traitor after a huge epic battle and is turned into a gladiator fighting in the Colossuem. He must fight and survive until he can find the true traitor and save the day. The digital battles and recreation of the Colossuem are suppose to be amazing! Look for this one!

-This morning the Oscar nominations were release, but of course I have spies who know all. I received a list yesterday which contained the pre-Oscar list. This is the list of 8 or more films that had made all the cuts until the last one. It's interesting to see which films were so close yet so far... These are the films or people that can't even say, "I was just happy to be nominated". I'll give you the pre-Oscar list and put a * by the nomination that made the final cut.
